CFG-FBE-B. George Arthur MALTBIE, b. June 7*, 1841 (Hiram 6, Benj.5, Benj.4, Dan.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). This George Arthur descended from the Ohio Maltbies. Martha J. Maltby who furnished a large collection of these Ohio Maltbys, simply wrote: "Died Feb. 12, 1907. No children."

To date I have been unable to place the following: (History of Jasper Co., Missouri, pub. by Mills and Co. at DesMoines, 1883, by F.A. North, Editor and Manager. p.943) "Lincoln Township."

"George A. Maltbie, post-office Golden City, farmer and stockman, section 14. The subject of this sketch was born in Warren Co. Ohio, June 7*, 1844, and was reared on a farm and was educated in Warren Co. In August, 1862, he enlisted in company I, 79th Volunteers Infantry and was mustered in at Camp Denison, joining the army of the Cumberland. He was honorably discharged on account of sickness in Oct. 1863, returning to his old home, and for a year he was unable to engage in any kind of business. In 1868 he moved to Missouri, and finally bought and settled in Bates county, living there until 1861(sic.) (Note, evidently an error, from context, date was probably 1881).

The stream South Fork runs through his farm, and a party of miners are now digging there for lead. The prospects are flattering for finding lead there in paying quantities. Mr. Maltbie is an enterprising and energetic man, and is immensely respected."

*(Note. Birth "June 7" on both records. The year 1841 and 1844
does not check but this happens over and over again; possibly
he was b. between Wm.H. 1843 and Jane 1848).
